New Year Meet

Tafraout Anti-Atlas | December 28th 2017 - January 4th 2018

Join us in Tafraout for some winter sunshine, and awesome quartzite trad climbing! The crags of the Jebel el Kest and Jebel Taskra massifs offer some of the most exciting traditional climbing this side of the Atlantic.

There's everything here from single-pitch cragging to 800m mountain adventures that start just yards from the car. There are brilliant multi-pitch crags, bouldering circuits on the fringes of the desert, wild remote rock climbs, and family-friendly 'picnic crags', all enjoying year-round Saharan sunshine.

ACCOMMODATION

A variety of hotels are available in Tafraout, of which we recommend the Hotel Les Amandiers. The hotel has twin, double, and family rooms, all with air conditioning, heating, and en-suite facilities. It's also home to the only real bar in the area, serving a range of beers, wines, and spirits. A (unheated!) outdoor swimming pool is available for guest use, and as well as a pleasant lounge and terrace there is a large restaurant which serves basic local and international dishes. Although other options are available, the Amandiers will be the focal point of the meet as it's the only place to hang out with a beer at the end of the day... They also host an excellent New Year's Eve party!

We've arranged a 25% discount on room prices at the Amandiers, meaning that twin rooms should cost approximately £30 per room per night.

travel

Individuals will need to organise their own travel, though there's lots of advice online at www.climb-tafraout.com and the meet organisers can assist if required. The best airport to fly into is Agadir (about 2.5 hours from Tafraout), though flights to Marrakech (about 6 hours drive) are cheaper and more frequent. Rental cars are required to access the crags from Tafraout, and most major rental companies have desks at both Marrakech and Agadir airports. A daily bus service also operates from Marrakech to Tafraout via Agadir (it takes all day!)

Agadir flights are currently about £240 fromGatwick, or £170 from Manchester.

New Year Party

Don't fret - it may be a Muslim country, but the Amandiers put on a great bash for new year, usually involving a big meal, dancing, andlive music (of an interesting traditional/modern/arabic genre...!)

The Climbing

There's loads of information on the Climb Tafraout website. For a peak inside the new Climb Tafraout guidebook, click here.

Novice Climbers

Although Tafraout is an adventurous destination, there are plenty of beginner-friendly crags, so as long as you can team up with someone with a bit of experience then there's no reason why you can't join in the fun!

Families and Kids

This trip is perfectly suitable for children of all ages. As well as loads of family-friendly single pitch crags, the kids love playing about on the granite boulders and there are some bolted slabs suitable for even the youngest climbers. Get in touch if you would like any more info!
